With spring in full bloom, it’s the perfect time to do a thorough cleaning of your apartment. Spring cleaning often involves all the cleaning efforts you’ve put off for the past twelve months so it can require more time and drive. However, it’s also great way to prep your apartment to really enjoy the upcoming summer months, and you will be glad you did.

For this reason, we’ve created this article to help make your spring cleaning chores as quick and effective as possible. Follow these tips and your apartment will be clean as a whistle in no time.

Start With A Plan

When it comes to spring cleaning, it’s important to literally start at the top and work your way down. This ensures that you aren’t having to reclean lower areas that have “collected” some of the dirt and dust from higher areas you’ve already cleaned. You might be surprised just how much dust can accumulate on the tops of door frames, cabinets and shelving. Start with taking any items off of cabinet tops and work your way down from there. If you have vases or other glass items that are on display, wash and rinse them in your kitchen sink to get the dust off.

Windows have an almost magical way of getting dirty without you ever really noticing until it’s time to clean them. Simply wiping them down with a damp rag (or a window cleaner and paper towels) can make this a quick job and improve your outdoor views for the later sunsets.

Dust shelves from top to bottom with a rag and indoor cleaning product. This will remove dust, improve your shelves’ finishes, and reduce allergies in the process. It will also save you the time and effort of having to reclean lower shelves again later.

Tables, countertops, and desks will likely not need much effort as they are often cleaned on a more regular basis. Move all items off the surface then make sure to be thorough and get any areas that might be harder to reach or that don’t get as frequent attention. This is also a good time to declutter and organize while you are at it. : )

If your vacuum has an upholstery attachment, this is the perfect opportunity to give your couches and chairs an annual once-over as well. Crumbs , pet hair and loose coins tend find a way to hide on, beneath and between sofa cushions.

With a simple kitchen cleaner and a soft rag, go over your stainless steel kitchen appliances, back splashes and countertops. If you’re really feeling bold, you can also scrub any areas inside your oven and refrigerator that might be suffering from a lack of “wintertime cleaning attention.”

Congratulations, you’re almost home. Start by moving furniture around so you can more easily clean underneath them. Steam clean all carpets and any rugs you might have. You’ll likely be surprised at just how much difference a steam clean can make, especially in the high-traffic areas.

If your apartment has hardwood floors, start by sweeping, mopping, and then polishing your floors to really bring out the shine. This can also help them last much longer.

We hope this top-to-bottom spring cleaning guide has helped make your apartment more comfortable to enjoy during the coming summer months. Now get out there and enjoy the nice weather!
